趁現在記憶猶新，決定來紀錄一下Q姐第一次參加中學升學考的經驗。

在英國，基礎教育的學制和台灣是不太一樣的。這裡是滿4歲的9月進入小學學前班就讀（也就是QDD這個年紀）、5歲念小一，11歲則進入中學就讀然後一路念到18歲上大學。所以目前10歲的Q姐是國小六年級，明年就要升中學了。

關於中學的選擇，每個家庭的考量和選擇也都不相同。有些會直接選填當地學區內的公立中學、有些會為此孟母三遷搬到好學區、有些是從同一間小學直升上去（蠻多私立學校是從4歲一路念到18歲）。 BUT，如果打算讓孩子進入比較 #升學導向或是所謂的 #頂尖中學，這裡通稱Selective Secondary School，那麼就得在孩子升上六年級的第一學期參加廣為英國家長熟知的11plus（11+）升學考試，考題圍繞在英文、數學、NVR（圖像推理邏輯）和VR（文字推理邏輯）四個科目。也因為這個考試的存在，許多小朋友都是從五年級甚至四年級開始準備，刷題、補習、或請家教算是基本配備。就我所知，Q姐班上大概有一半的同學決定走考試這條路。

至於11+這個制度可說是非常複雜，光用一個篇幅是講不完的，因為英國光是中學就分成私立公學（public school，大家最熟知的就是伊頓啦）、私立中學、公立中學、文法學校（Grammar school）…等。有些地區是整個郡舉辦會考然後填志願、某些熱門搶手的文法學校是 #獨立招生考1-2輪筆試，私立中學甚至是筆試加面試。重點是，每個區域或是學校的考法都不太一樣，有些是GL題型、有些CEM題型、私校ISEB等…. 看了是否一個頭兩個大？

時間回到9月1號當天，是Q姐人生中第一場中學升學考，這天要考的是位於北倫敦傳說中非常難考、獨立招生且錄取率極低的頂尖文法學校（Grammar school），歷年來每年幾乎都是3000多人報考，第一輪取300人、第二輪再篩選至最後100人。其實這間並非我們的主要志願，因為距離我們家1個多小時車程真的超遠，會報名考試單純是抱持著挑戰看看的心情而來。

當天因為QDD有線上家長會，所以我和隊友分頭行動。我在家和老師開會、DDC帶著女兒舟車勞頓前往學校陪考。根據DDC的現場回報，在場的排隊隊伍綿延至學校外牆超遠處（而且因為報考的人數太多，考期還分成兩天有上午場和下午場）。現場的學生人口組成，10個裡頭大概有 👉 6-7成都是印度學生、剩下1-2成看起來是華人臉孔、剩下的1-2成才是白人。對於這考生比例之懸殊，我們也覺得好奇妙（我和北邊的學校真的不熟啊）

反正當天Q姐看起來是老神在在，排隊等候時還拿著小說蹲著看（可能因為這間不是主要目標）。考試時間是一小時，共78題，等於每題思考+填答案時間不到50秒。考完之後Q姐是說她有寫完，有部分題目蠻難的但沒有想像中難，聽她描述完，我心裡還默默想說「該不會真的有機會考進第二輪吧？！」

然而，上週四我們接到這間學校的email 通知，今年和往年一樣共3000個學生參加考試，可以進第二輪（前300名）的錄取分數是346，Q姐差了3分結果沒進….. 。收到結果的當下，我還在擔心該用什麼方式和Q姐說，很怕女兒信心被擊潰或自暴自棄之類的（畢竟她還蠻常玻璃心 XD），但他爸直接直球對決和女兒講考試結果，並且坦然地說這也沒什麼，妳已經盡力了。幸好Q姐也沒有太在意。

雖然我們早就知道這間學校超級難考、也不在我們的主要志願裡，但Q才考第一間就敗「北」，說沒有一點點小失落是騙人的。不過，考過之後真的是沒什麼遺憾，畢竟Q已經發揮她最大的實力，只能說這對我們來說算是開眼界了，知道原來在英國、在倫敦，還是有這麼一群更努力、更用功、更厲害的小朋友們！！

總之，由於Q姐一直以來都是讀公立小學，五年級以前完全是在「沒作業、沒考試、沒壓力、甚至不知道 #參考書為何物」的快樂環境中成長，所以當初決定走上考11+這條路，我和DDC也是從碰撞中學習，公立學校沒教的我們只能靠自己教（但英文我倆程度都比女兒差，只好請家教），更希望這段備考期間她能在適度的壓力和放鬆玩樂中取得平衡。然後這一切只是剛開始，因為我們大部分報考的都是私校，考試是從11月才開始啊啊啊，要一路考到明年1月才結束。等考完之後，我一定要報復性玩樂，日子實在是太悶了嗚嗚嗚。

補充：蠻多人好奇Grammar school是什麼？字面上直接翻譯是文法學校，但更確切的稱呼可以稱為『重點學校』。簡單來說，就是比較升學導向的頂尖中學，絕大部分的Grammar School都是公立的，完全免學費，但就是要透過這樣學術競爭的方式考進去。如果換成台灣的學校來想，可以想成台灣的北一女、建中、雄中雄女等學校，只是英國這類的學校選擇又更多。

Come 2022, these three will be embarking on their Primary 1, Upper Primary and Secondary 1 journeys. Yup, huge milestones for all of them, right?

As a mum, I am always concerned about the health of my kids and that includes their spinal health too. The general guideline from Health Promotion Board is for children to carry no more than 15 per cent of their bodyweight. However, despite my kids' best efforts to pack their school bags, I still find that they are rather heavy on most days - I always ask them if they brought a rock, haha. Therefore, I deem it important to go for good quality, ergonomic bags from the start.

We visited Ergoworks Singapore to check out the ErgoJunior range of ergonomic school bags. Swipe to see more. These bags encourage good posture and help to provide sturdy support for the spine by distributing weight across the back, shoulders and neck.

2 years today @sirhanwahab popped back into my life after the last time I saw him was way back when we were in secondary school. While accompanying a mutual friend to my place for my little Raya do, on the 13th of June 2019 he sent me a DM on @instagram and as fate would have it, here we are sitting on our sofa in our home here in Dubai looking at our beautiful wedding album by @glamorouscapture ??

The album was ready over a year ago but due to the pandemic we weren’t able to return home to Malaysia as initially planned but when I recently did get the chance earlier this year, this was one of the items I decided to bring back especially because I wanted to share the first time of unboxing it with Sirhan naturally.

Thank you @i.am.muz of @glamorouscapture for the magnificent pre-wedding photographs that were shot at #MemorialTunkuAbdulRahman and of course the fantastic pictures taken during the Khatam Quran as well as the Nikah ceremony.
